Char Dham Yatra - the pilgrimage to the four holy Hindu temples - is situated in Uttarakhand, India in the high Himalayas. All these four temples were built around 1000 years ago by Adi Shankaracharya and is the testimony of faith and spirit of Hindus. All these temples are amongst the most visited temples in India, with several thousand people making sure that they complete this pilgrimage at least once in their life. Most Hindus - young & old or rich & poor - with faith in power of God attempt the Char dham yatra and most of them making it through purely on the basis of faith and burning desire to see these temples.
The first temple of the yatra, from where river Yamunotri originates from the glaciers of Himalayas. The temple of Yamunotri lies at an altitude of about 3200 meters.
The temple was first built here when the Gangotri glacier’s source of Ganges was situated here. The temple still stands here while the glacier has receded back 20-km.
The Kedarnath temple visit is possible either through a 14-km walking trail or through Helicopter Yatra. The altitude is approximately 3500 meters.
The temple of Badrinath is connected to road-head, at a distance of 290-km from the town of Rishikesh and 520-km from New Delhi.
